Description
2010 was an unusual year in many areas of the Australian Outback owing to the amount of rainfall in these arid parts.
After rain, desert flowers suddenly burst into life over hundreds of kilometres. The storm in the distance opened up after another hour and caused vast areas to become impassable for the next week.
Although the impression of the desert is one of thousands of sand dunes, the flat areas betwwen the dunes also attracts clay which becomes very sticky and soft when wet. I had been bogged for some 24 hours the previous day!
Note the small spider in the bottom left of the picture. The track on the right is the French Line - a major route across the desert.
