Description
Located about 150kms south of Alice Springs, there are several pillars of sandstone rising above the desert sands. A harder top layer has resisted erosion by wind and rain. The pillar was discovered in 1860 by John McDouall Stuart on his first attempt to cross Australia. It is named after one of his expedition's sponsors James Chambers. A special sight at sunrise. Chambers Pillar and the nearby Castle Rock are the main attractions in the small historical reserve.
